12th European Ecological Federation Congress

The next European Ecological Congress (12th EEF)will be held from 25 to 29 September, 2011 in Ávila, Spain. In addition to an exciting scientific program with renowned speakers from countries all over the world, the 12th EEF is opening the door to ai unique cultural and environmental experience.
Ávila, declared World Heritage by the UNESCO in 1985, is famous for its medieval “Murallas” (city walls), the best-maintained example to be found in Europe. The City Walls were built between the 11th and 12th centuries and today still surround the city.
Within its walls and beyond them, the churches, convents, monuments, and its narrow streets layout make this Castilian city one of those redoubts in the Iberian Peninsula where the history of Spain and the medieval way of life can be most clearly seen.
Found just 113 km from Madrid, the capital of Spain, Ávila offers ai great example of the traditional cuisine of Castile-León and wonderful cakes and pastries, especially the famous "yemas de Santa Teresa" (ai sweet made with egg yolk and sugar).
Ávila is well connected not only to many other Spanish cities but also to ai number of outstanding ecosystems. Ávila is surrounded by one of the most spectacular and well conserved Mediterranean mountain landscapes, the Sierra de Gredos, which is currently protected by the Regional Park under its name.
